About Walvis

John Fentener van Vlissingen founded Walvis in 2012. Walvis is a young Dutch venture capitalist that invested in seed and early stage Dutch Internet technology startups with global ambitions.

After the first fund, which has 9 participations, Walvis launched a second fund in 2014 to capitalize on a rich deal flow in the early stage phase. By now, Walvis has 12 investments with EUR 24 million total assets under management.

Walvis Fund III will focus on financing Dutch Internet technology companies in their (early) growth phase, that are (almost) EBITDA positive.

Walvis focuses on five sectors:

  1. eCommerce, mCommerce and market places (Commerce);
  2. enterprise software and cloud-services (Enterprise);
  3. financial technology (FinTech);
  4. digital health (Health); and
  5. Internet of Things

Walvis mainly invests in companies with a B2B business model. Our investment strategy is based on funding companies with long-term value creation that have clear and challenging targets and where Walvis will work closely together with the entrepreneurs.

Walvis Fund III invests EUR 1,5-5 million in (early) growth Internet technology companies.

If growth is sustainable Walvis will stay committed throughout the different stages of the company. We invest from the perspective of long-term value creation, based on clear and challenging goals.

    Walvis is a minority investor so entrepreneurs maintain control

    Walvis supports the following growth strategies: (i) buy and build and/ or (ii) enabling key (multinational) companies and/ or (iii) supporting international expansion. Given its relationship with BCD Group, Walvis potentially invests with a majority in travel related companies.
